Massive 6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Delhi-NCR and Northern Regions, Panic Ensues

Delhi-NCR Earthquake news: In a startling turn of events on Thursday afternoon, a powerful earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted and Delhi-NCR several areas in Jammu and Kashmir.

The epicentre of the earthquake was reported to be near the Afghanistan border in the Hindu Kush region, as confirmed by the National Seismology Center.

As the tremors were felt across the region, people rushed out of their homes and offices, leaving work aside.

While the situation is currently tense, there is no information about any casualties or damage to property so far.

The impact of the earthquake was not limited to Delhi-NCR, as regions in Punjab, including Chandigarh, and various parts of Jammu and Kashmir also experienced strong tremors.

Notably, neighbouring Pakistan also felt the Earthquake, prompting people to evacuate buildings and offices.

The seismic activity is a stark reminder of the geological complexities in the region, where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates interact.

Seismologists explain that earthquakes occur when the Earth's plates, constantly in motion, collide or slide against each other. The release of energy during this process causes the ground to shake.

The intensity and impact of an earthquake are measured using the Richter scale, with a magnitude of 6.1 indicating a significant event.

While the current focus is on assessing the aftermath and ensuring the safety of residents, it's crucial to note that the Richter scale measures the energy release, not the physical damage caused.

Further updates on the situation and potential aftershocks are awaited as authorities continue monitoring the seismic activity in the affected regions.

In conclusion, the recent earthquake serves as a sobering reminder of the unpredictable nature of geological events.

The need for preparedness and robust infrastructure to mitigate the impact of such natural disasters becomes increasingly evident.

As the affected regions grapple with the aftermath, authorities emphasize the importance of community awareness and adherence to safety protocols to minimize risks during seismic events.
